Seasider Moore makes Rosebowl squad

Bangor Ladies would like to congratulate their talented midfielder Mollie Moore who was selected to represent Northern Ireland at the 2011 Rosebowl tournament, which was held last week (Aug. 8-11) at the Bangor Sportsplex on the Old Belfast Road.

The competition held over three consecutive days saw wins for Northern Ireland over Scotland on Wednesday (6-0) and a 3-1 win over Wales on Thursday, enough to secure that Northern Ireland finished as runners-up to tournament favourites England, who have lifted the trophy on three consecutive occasions.

Donaghadee teenager Mollie has always been an avid football fanatic, playing from a very early age, and has already made an impression at Clandeboye Road in her first season playing for the official ladies section of Bangor Football Club having signed from rivals 1st Bangor (Newtownards) in May.

Bangor Ladies Mollie Moore who represented Northern Ireland at the Rosebowl

Mollie started playing competitive for the Abbey Villa Youth (boys) team from 2004 to 2007, where she captained the team for just over a year. At 14 years of age, Mollie then signed for Abbey Villa ladies where she played for a season at Adams Park, in Millisle.

Appearances too for both her County team and her school football team, at Donaghadee High until its closure in 2007. Mollie now attends Bangor Academy.

Having transferred at the end of 2009, Mollie was signed for 1st Bangor (Newtownards) where she picked up a 3rd Division Cup winners and a League Championship runners up medal in her first season. More success was to follow with yet another cup final appearance for the young Newtownards side in 2010, unfortunately losing that year to Derry City Ladies.

However, Mollie seemed restless at the start of the 2011 season, and having trained with Millisles’ Abbey Villa in pre-season, Mollie never really settled at the Portaferry Road based team, the talented teenager felt she needed a change and looked for a fresh start at the beginning of this season.

Taking advantage of little used transfer legislation in the NIWFA handbook, Mollie was to switch her allegiance to neighbours Bangor Ladies on the very last day of the ‘transfer window’, which saw her sign for the Seasiders on May 18th, 2011.

Making the switch from 1st Bangor (Newtownards) to the Clandeboye Road based Seasiders could not have been an easy decision. The two clubs are local rivals – but the impact of the move has provided the teenager with a fresh start, under the management of Andy Craig, Mollie is playing some of her best football for some time.

Given the freedom to be the attacking player of a central midfield partnership, Mollie has already rattled in a number of spectacular strikes for the Sammy Mellon and Sons sponsored club including one against her former team 1st Bangor (Newtownards) in the divisional cup.

Recognizing the technical ability, talent and achievements of this young footballer, Mollies progression into the N.I. Rosebowl team comes as no surprise, and the coaches at Clandeboye Park believe it is just the first step towards full international honors for the young Bangor player.
