Seasiders look forward to AGM and Awards' Night
Bangor Ladies, the ladies section at Bangor Football Club, completed their 2011 divisional campaign on Thursday 11th August 2011, with a comfortable, deserving 5-1 win, on-the-road away at Moyola Park Ladies, as the club look forward to closing the season in style.
That win, was the club’s third victory in a row and was enough to elevate Andy Craig’s side up the league table and also secure the ladies sections status in Division Two come the start of the 2012 season, which will commence in early April next year after a welcome winter lay off.
Although there are still a couple of important dates in the diary for the Clandeboye Park ladies with the AGM which immediately precedes the 2011 Bangor Ladies FC Awards night, both these events are coming up shortly, and are scheduled for October 13th and October 14th.
The club’s Annual General Meeting will be first though where a number of key decisions regarding the future of North Down’s only ladies football club as well as the election of a new committee, which will responsible for all matters relating to the Sammy Mellon and Sons, sponsored club will take place.
Looking back on the summer and although the club failed to achieve the sort of league position that had been hoped for at the start of April, the management remain optimistic that the club are certainly moving in the right directions, with the majority of the membership under the age of 22 years.
Bangor Ladies talented defender Alanah Burns and goal scoring striker Jessica Beers, playing in their first ever season of ladies football.
In particularly, the teenage signings of Alanah Burns, Jessica Beers, Molly Moore and Sophie Ferris are considered to be the key for the success of this young side in the next few years as this crop of talented footballers all performed to a very high standard this year, and considering three of the quartet had never played any senior football before.
The other, Northern Ireland’s Rosebowl representative Mollie Moore on the other hand, came to the Seasiders from Newtownards rivals First Bangor Ladies, and although a late signing, made a telling contribution for the club in her midfield role, scoring some spectacular goals during the divisional campaign.

Other influential ‘rookie’ signings were Hayley Gains, Claire Arthur, Kellie Gillies, Stevie Clifford, Lisa Gilmore, Christine Duncan, Rebekka Adams and Dawn Clarke all of whom made considerable improvements as the season unfolded, which underlined what a significant transformation the Seasiders embarked on at the beginning of the year.

While the club also relied on their more experienced team Captain Leanne McGarry, 2010 Player of the Year Jennifer Boyd and North Down Sports Advisory Council nominee Tina Sharpe. Also in the squad at the start of the year were 2010s’ Most Improved Player Lynsey Turville; along with Mel McCallion, Gemma Brewster, Trish Webb, Val McKibbin and the ladies sections top goal scorer in 2009, 2010 and 2011, the exceptionally talented Natasha Lee.

Another addition to the club has been Peter Gilmore who joined as assistant coach in June and hopefully will be moving up to take over a Senior Coach at the AGM in October. Peter, and all these players will be invited as Bangor Ladies bring the curtain down on the season at the Awards Evening, which will once again be held at Carnalea Golf Club, and will see the important announcement of the 2011 Player of the Year.
This honour is bestowed on the footballer that is judged by her team mates as having made the biggest contribution to the team. All players have three votes and the name of the player with the most accumulated votes will takes the shield, joining Cathy Duncan 2006, Kim Dockery 2007, Christina McNamara 2008, Natasha Lee 2009 and Jenny Boyd in 2010.
