Ladies Section changes

Second week of Pre-Season this Sunday

Bangor Ladies, the ladies section at Bangor Football Club, will continue their Pre-Season training this Sunday (22nd) afternoon under the direction of coach Peter Gilmore who unfortunately for the Seasiders, will be leaving the Province at the end of the month to head off to Australia for a year, ringing the changes next month.

Peter, joined Bangor Ladies from Abbey Villa last summer, as assistant to manager Andy Craig, and proved to be a key addition to the Seasiders, as he took over the role as Senior Coach during the summer of 2011. Obviously a blow for the ladies section to be losing such an integral figure within the organisation for the up and coming football season, however Peter’s position as Senior Coach will remain open for him upon his return.

Having reported back last weekend (15th) clearly the wheels are now in motion regarding preparation for the 2012 ladies season, which will get underway in earnest in April, the club is delighted to welcome a couple of new signings already this season. Teenager Sian Corbett and 20 year-old Stacy Wyall are the latest additions to the membership. The Seasiders are still looking to increase the size of the current squad to a maximum of 28 players before the start of the domestic campaign.

Application forms for 2012 will be available this weekend at training and are also available on line by clicking on the following link. Please fill in both pages (when applicable) sign and return for official registration to the NIWFA.

Although not a great showing last weekend, it is hoped that the numbers at training will pick up significantly by the start of next month, as the coaches concentrate on increasing the overall fitness of the squad, with a series of strengthening and conditioning sessions planned throughout February.

This program will be supported with a number of pre-season fixtures, both at Clandeboye Park, home of the Seasiders and other venues, all of which will give everyone in the squad plenty of football, that in turn, should provide the players with an advantageous edge in terms of match fitness come the start of the competitive season in April.

With a programme of coaching which will concentrate on three elements of the modern day footballer: Physical - cardio vascular conditioning; tactical - team formations, offsides, principles of attack and defence; and finally technique - skills, shielding, heading, passing etc., which will worked on through February and March will be individual technical ability, team responsibilities, formations and systems, a combination of which can make playing the game a lot more enjoyable and when applied correctly, more attractive on the eye.

Bangor Ladies will play all their matches midweek, with evening kick-offs, home matches will be played on a Tuesday evening at Clandeboye Park, until such times as important pitch maintenance will force the closure of the local ground. The Seasiders will then hope to switch to Bloomfield Road Playing Fields, for the remainder of their home fixtures.

So, if you are interested in playing football this summer at Clandeboye Park, are over 14 years of age, you can simply turn up for training any Sunday afternoon 1.30 p.m. – 3.45 p.m. at Clandeboye. Training will continue every Sunday (weather permitting) and all players new, old, experienced or completely new to the sport, will be very welcome, whether wishing to train for fitness or just for fun.
