WELLY REC. WASH OUT!
Wellington Rec. v. Bangor Ladies
Bangor Ladies final league game washed out
League Champions Bangor Ladies, the ladies section of Bangor Football Club's final league fixture of their memorable, record breaking season was postponed last Wednesday (19th), as torrential rain flooded the Brookvale Park ground in Larne, home of Wellington Recreational Ladies.
Despite the fixture being given the go ahead as late as 6.50 p. m. the conditions deteriorated very rapidly, with the persistent heavy rainfall, and the referee postponed the game at around 7.20 p.m. in view of the safety of the players. The game has been re-arranged by the NIWFA fixture secretary Basil Marshall, for this Wednesday 26th, weather permitting, with a 7 p.m. kick off.

Bangor Teenager Natasha Lee top goalscorer in the Coca Cola Division 3
With all other fixtures in the league championship going ahead, the Seasiders are delighted to announce the clubs top striker Natasha Lee has been confirmed as the Coca Cola division threes divisions top goalscorer in 2009. A fantastic achievement by the 18 year old in her first season up front with the Clandeboye Road club.
The young Bangor Academy student has been the catalyst for a great year, with an amazing 4 league hat-tricks in a row. Goals against every defence in the division, recording strikes in all league and cup competitions she is set to upstage the clubs previous top striker Deirdre Savage. Although, she would be first to acknowledge the assists and contribution made by strike partner Savage, who is a renowned striker and triple winner of the Seasiders Top Goalscorer trophy with successive victories in 06, 07 and 08.

Teenager Lee’s contribution this season has been 24 league goals for Bangor Ladies in just 13 matches. The best strike rate in any of the five NIWFA divisions - along with fellow Bangor forward Dee Savage third, and midfielder Carolyn Scott ninth, the club celebrate finishing the season with three players in the division’s top ten goalscoring charts.
The three hotshots have combined to amass a total, so far, of 48 league goals - only one less than the entire total of goals scored this season in the premiership by the Northern Ireland 2009 champions Newtownabbey Strikers - who won this season's title with 49!
The unbeaten Seasiders will go to Larne already confirmed as champions, but are looking to finish the season in style – a win would maintain the North Down club’s 100% away record in the division, also protect an unprecedented, unbeaten run of league fixtures of 17 games.

The Sammy Mellon sponsored side have also an opportunity to finish the season as the NIWFA top points scorers in all seven divisions, the highest goal scorers, with the biggest goal difference tally in the whole of Northern Ireland – which would cap a truly remarkable season.
Under the management of Andy Craig and assistant Leanne McGarry, the team have posted a played 13, won 12, drawn 1, points 37, goals for 64, goals against 11 heading up to Larne on Wednesday evening. Only beaten twice all season, a 5-4 thriller away to Derry City Ladies and in a league cup semi final against 1st Bangor (Newtownards).
Manager Craig; “The team has certainly fought all of the way in this campaign – there were times when we were hit very hard with injuries, etc., twice going into fixtures with a bare minimum of 11 players, and once even dropping below that. But, all over the pitch there has been a good attitude, work ethic, the desire and the determination to keep us going.
“Youngster Lee has been sensational, she is a bright, very strong, very gifted footballer and raw talent. If we can keep her focused, I think she can follow in the footsteps of local Northern Ireland international Ashley Hutton.
“Ashley, from Robinson Road in the town, played at every level for her country from the age of 13. As a teenager she had spells with English champions Arsenal Ladies, was also in the squad for 07 FA cup finalists Leeds United Ladies in front of 24,000 spectators; also enjoying spells in the USA and more recently as a professional with Icelandic side Fylkir.
“I’m hoping to get the right result on Wednesday, it will help to enhance our reputation in the NIWFA, and attract players of the calibre of McGarry, Bates and Finegan who have added quality and helped the progression of the players around them.
“Also, an unbeaten season would be a fitting tribute to the encouragement and support we have received from Bangor F.C. Chairman Trevor Best, the Board and everyone at Clandeboye Park. It would also be an endorsement of the investment of our sponsors Sammy Mellon and Sons, who have backed the club and the development of ladies football locally.”
