2009 Season ends at Clandeboye Park

Bangor v. Larne Ladies

Seasiders finish tonight at home

The Seasiders will hope to end in style under the lights.

Bangor Ladies, the ladies section of Bangor Football Club proudly complete their memorable 2009 season at Clandeboye Park tomorrow night as, statistically anyway, the Number One ladies football club in Northern Ireland. The record-breaking Seasiders’ topped all the other clubs in all seven divisions to finish with more points scored over the14 game campaign (40), the highest number of goals (67) scored anywhere in the Province and the team with the biggest positive goal difference (+56) in the NIWFA.

Although successfully bringing the first silverware to Clandeboye Park in several years, the 2009 league champions also made it to the semi final of the NIWFA Divisional Cup, which was the North Down clubs only defeat in the division for over a year.

What was even more outstanding from a managerial point of view was the resilience that the squad showed after being hit with injury after injury, at times struggling to field a full compliment of players. From this point of view the future looks very bright providing the management team of Andy Craig and Leanne McGarry can keep the backbone of this side together in order to attack Division Two next April.

Hopefully Bangor Ladies goalkeeper Bridget Finegan will be fit again and able to start for the club next season, with Cathy Duncan, Kim Dockery, Trish Webb and Tina Sharpe all off the treatment table now, the club should be in top shape when that challenge does arise.

Bangor will finish through, on the field anyway, tonight with the visit of Championship side Larne Ladies, who will be the guests at Clandeboye Park, with the game getting underway at around 7.45 p.m.
The fixture will be preceded however with the NIWFA awarding the squad their Division Three Championship medals, which will be presented by Ivan Mellon, representing Club Sponsors Sammy Mellon and Sons, Hyundai Dealers, Bingham Street, Bangor.

Also the ‘2009 Player of the Year’ nominations are now being accepted – you can text these to Bangor L.F.C. - 07732 277854. All that needs to be done is for players to select the three players who they wish to nominate for the Award, in no particular order and send these as soon as. The player who ends up with the most votes will then be named at the Player Of The Year Awards night, which is once again being held in Carnalea Golf Club. The successful footballers’ name will then be added to previous winners Cathy Duncan (2006) Kim Dockery (2007) and Christina McNamara (2008).

The presentation will take place on Friday week (2nd) where the members of Bangor Ladies Football Club will conclude the 2009 season with a dinner at the splendid atmospheric Carnalea setting overlooking Bangor Bay and of course the courtesy of ‘free’ bar. The menu for the evening is featured below, and will be circulated on Thursday evening – with the price per head of just £15.

Also that night the club awards will be made - Top Goalscorer 2009 – Natasha Lee, breaking a club tradition which has seen Dee Savage take this title on the previous three consecutive seasons. The Bangor teenager set a new club record of 32 strikes during the summer season. The Managers Players of the Season and most improved Player of the Season will also be announced that evening – the management team of McGarry and Craig will select both these awards.

Next up, before formally closing the season off, the Annual General Meeting will take place at Groomsport Inn, Groomsport. This is a very important date for all members of the club and it is important that everyone makes an effort to attend. At this meeting the Club will elect the 2010/2011 committee which will be moving the club forward over the next few years.

There are currently a number of vacancies for positions on the Committee and any member of the club who wishes to put their name forward on the night is very welcome to do so.

There will also be a detailed Treasurers Report which will list all the clubs expenditure and also the clubs income and projection for the 2010 season. Once these have been accepted both documents will be posted on the Bangor Ladies website.
