Seasiders' launch 6-game
pre-season programme

Bangor Ladies F.C., the ladies section of Bangor Football Club, will open their pre-season 6 match programme against top flight opposition Blackieville (7th) and then face Cliftonville ladies (9th) in early March, followed quickly with fixtures lined up away to Larne (17th), before returning home against Saint Matthews LFC (23rd) and Glenavon Ladies (29th), finishing off at Clandeboye Road in April (6th, to be announced),

Training will get underway in just three weeks time, on Sunday, 21st February, Manager Andy Craig who along with Assistant Manager Leanne McGarry will be looking forward to reassembling the squad and getting them back playing again after a well earned winter break,

The team last played a competitive fixture in September, bringing the curtain down on what proved, a record breaking summer of ladies football, The highlight for the Clandeboye Road based club, was the securing of the third division title in August,

The club who statistically finished as the most successful ladies football club in Northern Ireland in 2009 have been reflecting on a memorable season. Unbeaten in the league for seventeen consecutive games, they finished their divisional campaign with 40 out of a possible 42 points, having scored an incredible 67 goals in 14 games, an average of 4 goals a game.

Not only was the side the most prolific team in front of goal, defensively the Seasiders remained resolute and very solid, returning seven clean sheets in fourteen outings and only conceding 11 times in the whole league campaign.

Although these successes remain fresh in the minds of the Seasiders¹, an even greater test awaits, now that the new football season is dawning bringing the challenge of competing at a higher level of football, following their promotion.

The preparations are however, underway, and the 09 champions will kick off on the road, away to Blackieville, before returning home to Clandeboye Park, against a very useful and successful Cliftonville ladies team, The North Belfast side celebrated promotion into the top flight of ladies football the Premier Division last September, beating Loughgall Lakers in the playoffs.

Loughgall were visitors to Clandeboye Park last April as part of the last year¹s pre-season programme, recording a comfortable 3-0 victory, which incidentally was the last time the Seasiders would lose a game at home in 2009.

Following this tough test, the club will travel to Larne¹s Inver Park to take on local ladies team on Saint Patrick¹s Day, Larne have enjoyed a close relationship with the North Down side, which has seen the two sides clash several times both competitively and in pre and post season fixtures. The most recent, was Bangor¹s last competitive game of 2009, a 4-1 victory at Clandeboye Park.

Bangor Ladies last competitive fixture at Clandeboye Park, last September.

Then the club will be inviting the 1st division double winners Saint Matthews to Clandeboye Road in what promises to be a great match up. Both clubs remained unbeaten in 2009 and with a combined total of 67 and 65 goals between them in 14 games it promises to be a very entertaining game for Andy Craig¹s side.

"I am happy with the preparations that are in place, as it is important to get the team playing again quickly inspiring a positive mind set before the end of April, While these games all represent tough fixtures for us, it is important the players realise that they face a much tougher test this season.

"While the record breaking year was memorable, it is history and we need to keep moving forward, While the next couple of results are not relevant with nothing at stake, I will be looking at our performances, making sure everyone at the club gets focussed on playing again, every week.

"This intensive programme of early fixtures should provide the team with some match sharpness against some very good sides, as the teams we will be taking on, have been chosen for their quality and the fact that each one will present us with a very formidable opponent.

"The 2010 season will get underway towards to the end of April, and if we are to maintain our momentum of last season, the next few months should provide the answers to where we need to strengthen the side, and what work is required before the big kick off.
