NIWFA Registered Squad for 2009

TINA SHARPE - Striker - Squad Number 20

Absolutely awesome prospect for the Bangor Ladies football club, has bags of natural ability and aggressive positive attitude. Needs to concentrate on her finishing and we have the complete package. A young player with a very bright future in this, her second season in the NIWFA and with a bit of hard work it could prove a very important one for the club itself. After a year on the sideline with a serious ligament injury Tina was back in 2008, and has been given her chance to come in up front, and looks to have settled quickly with strike partner and leading goalscorer Dee Savage. So, its up to her now to challenge for that mantle! Netted six times in 08 and will improve in 09. Went out injured in the Pre-Season against Knockbreda...... Signed for 2009.

MARGARET McDOWELL - Striker - Squad Number 23

Maggie is a gifted and very talented youngster. Has proved a raw prospect in the pre season programme. Is starting to find her feet in her debut season with a few cameo roles as a substitute. It is hoped that once she gains some confidence and physical power she will become an accomplished goalscorer over the coming seasons. Her pace is awesome and she will be unstoppable in 2009, with a sustained run in the team. Profile: Raw but tough youngster, she has an incredible engine, balance and will not give up, once she gets the knack of putting the ball in the net, will score time and time again - only area that needs work on - confidence - but will get there! Signed for 2009.

SAM BRITTAIN - Goalkeeper - Squad Number 22

Newtownards based Sam came to the club in April where she has been given a few starts in friendlies, and now the No.1 at Bangor Ladies - looks to be learning and taking her time to adjust to what is a new challenge - coming from a number of other clubs - she has the ability to impose her presence in 2008 - and with some one-on-one coaching she will be given an insight into her responsibilities as regards distribution and communication, Sam promises to be a good asset for the club - is very brave and quick to close down opposing strikers. Profile - one to watch, will relish the fresh start and take on the challenge. Is out at the moment with injury. Signed for 2009.

DEIRDRE SAVAGE - Striker - Squad Number 9

Very fit and intelligent talented footballer, although only made her first appearance in the NIWFA in 2006, she has already proved to be a sensational find, finishing 06 and 07 as back to back top goalscorer at the club. Dee has natural balance, pace and determination with some fine tuning will find the back of the net consistently every season - has worked as hard as anyone at the club in all her pre-season and with Tina Sharpe now a regular starter and strike partner up front, the club look to have natural goalscorers with these two potentially the key members of the squad - Deirdre has rattled in five hat-tricks in three seasons against Crumlin, Knockbreda, Ards Raiders and Abbey Villa Ladies. Top goalscorer in 06, 07 and 08, and there's more to come from the Seasiders No. 9. Signed for 2009.

CATHY DUNCAN - Midfield - Squad Number 8

Has made a huge impact since her first season in 2006, is emerging as a top class utility player and now captains the side. Contributed all over the park in 2006 and 2007 and is a role model for the younger players at the club. Going forward Cathy is unstoppable and has the energy and performance levels which will mould her into one of the top players in the game. Is still learning her responsibilities in midfield but in shaping up into a major player, give 101 per cent. Profile - when we add composure and vision will be one of the players with the club who has the ability to take the club into a higher division and sustain Bangor's rise to the top of ladies football in Northern Ireland. Got the clubs first ever goal back in Jan. 2006 with an abolsutely stunning strike in the opener v. Larne Ladies, and followed that with contributions in the last couple of seasons. After a year out - bringing her daughter Scarlet into the world, she was back in 2008 and ready to pick up where she left off - getting off the mark in 2008 and once we develop her short game - awesome!! Player of the year 2006! Signed for 2009

SUZANNA REA - Midfielder. Squad Number 13

Enjoying her first full season with the Seasiders. Suzanne works hard and plays at a consistent level - willing to give what its takes and has filled in at left back, also had a stint in midfield and partnered Savage up front for a few games - looks to have settled more in recent weeks and has made good all round contributions in the games against PSNI, Knockbreda and in particular against Wellington - playing with an injury - a good attitude and work ethic makes her a great asset to Bangor Ladies and was a big part of the side's success in 2008. Scored her first goal again PSNI last season, was involved in every game of 2008 and ended with the reward of the Seasider's Most Improved Player in 2008! Signed for July 09

CHRISTINA McNAMARA - Midfielder - Squad Number 6

A tough and versatile competitor, loves be involved and get at defences during a game. Finding her feet in midfield and won’t be muscled out of a battle in the middle of the park. Registered for 2006 and has contributed in the pre-season with an a number of cameo appearances, went on to be voted Most Improved Player 2006, then Managers Player of the year 2007 before being recognised, by her teammates as the Player of the Year in 2008. Has a fantastic competitive attitude and could be another key player at this club, with pace and now the ability to split defences and create the chances for the strikers. Profile: A player already showing the benefits of playing regularly, and is the clubs top starter having appeared in all but five of the clubs games over the last three seasons. Has a better understanding of the players around her, has already shown a good level of fitness and has registered a goal scoring touch in the 2008 league campaign with a strike against Knockbreda in May - is a good all rounder - proved herself in a 2006 and 07 with a outstanding contributions - has now firmly established a firm grip on the right side of midfield. Signed for 2009

CAROLYN SCOTT - Midfield - Squad Number 12

Carolyn has an that extra gear and can destroy teams with her pace. Playing out wide on the left side of midfield, she is an all round athlete, and has notched up a number of goals already, without any real coaching - so when we add that ingredient to her game we can expect a big improved contribution. Is very quite capable of stepping up her game and with some experience will prove an outstanding player with an abundance of talent. Profile - when at her best she is dangerous and direct, her work rate is an example to others and the club has probably found her ideal position which is out wide left - compliments McNamara on the right - recorded her first strike for the club in the league recently and has also excelled in 2006, 2007 - looks to be starting to enjoy her football at the club with some good determined play. Manager's Player of the Year 2008. Went on to be part of the Championships winning side in 2009 scoring what proved the decisive goal which clinched the first ever silverware for the North Down club. 2010 was ruled out following a bad ankle injury which sidelined the midfielder for several weeks. Signed for 2009.

PETRA ARMSTRONG - Midfielder - Squad Number 10

Petra could prove one of the finds of the season, will start the season late when returning shortly (July) and hopefully in top form and from there can slowly grow in both confidence and stature at the Club. Is highly rated by the management at the club with lightning pace and when we can add the final ball or some clinical finishing will be a tremendous asset later in the year. Has notched up a number of goals with her previous club who never gave her any credit and will relish the opportunity to show what she can do. Profile - has the ability to play at the top level and is worthy of selection - if we can get her fully focused and increase her mental sharpness could prove a catalyst in the future. Signed for 2009

LYNSEY RUDDOCK - Midfield - Squad Number 24

Lynsey is another new, exciting prospect for the Seasiders for 2009. Playing on either side of the midfield, she gives the team some width and balance. Is a very composed and intelligent footballer who has one of the modern games greatest assets - vision. Lynsey can produce the most telling of passes - in between centre backs into dangerous areas - the space behind defences. Can be utilised up front if required and once she gets her match sharpness and her fitness levels up, could be a regular starter in the any. Profile - one to watch, has experience but needs to play regularly to get her fitness up to a level where she can start to control games - still looking for her ideal position which could be as the holding midfielder applying the simple football needed when the team gets bogged down......and expect one or two goals as well. Signed for 2009.

JENNY BOYD - Midfield - Squad Number 14

A player who has probably the most potential at the club - has less experience or technical ability, but desire to learn in abundance - only lacks match sharpness and if she continues to work hard at her fitness after a spell in England, Bangor have a match winner in both the midfield area, where Jeni can influence the game - or with a stint up front where she can be very useful in the final third with some gifted touches and a solid punch. Will need plenty of games now to get up to match fitness and if she can up the tempo of her game she will prove a major handful for any defence. Profile - Most improved player of 2007, now Jen can emerge from the pack as one of the top players at the club with the ability to slow down play in the middle of the park. Has matured in stature and finished 2008 in ferocious form. Signed for 2009

KIM DOCKERY - Midfield - Squad Number 21

A top class footballer and a player who has consistently performed at a very high level in a career which is littered with success. A player who can play in any position and who breeds confidence to those who are lined up with her. This year hopes to see her settle into her favoured midfield role and as a forward thinking player Kim will also bag a number of goals in the 2008 season - scored a peach in the 2-2 draw with PSNI in May. Maybe short of pace but her technical ability is second to none and that should prove to be a key element in the Bangor Ladies season. Profile: A quiet but very dependable footballer, makes a contribution wherever she plays and with a regular sustained place in a starting line-up - this player will be the difference in tight games - one who has the ability to produce something when its needed - add fitness to her profile and she will be the best all round player at the club - started well with goals against Knockbreda and PSNI as the league got underway. Manager Player of the year 2006! Players' Player of the Year 2007! Signed for 2009

PAULA DOUGHERTY - Defender - Squad Number 7

A top class player with bags of experience and an ideal right back - with both vision and pace. This is a huge year for this ex North Down Star player - and although a very competitive, intelligent and committed player - there’s more to come from this power packed warrior and is definitely a major signing for 2009. Carrying an injuries which kept Paula out until late June 08 - she returned in top form. Profile - has vision and is very strong, but more importantly will never give up and will never let the club down when called into the team - gives 100% every game. Captained the side in the club's first ever win the Intermediate B Division, home at Clandeboye Park, against PSNI 2006, took 2007 out with personal commitments but came back strong in 2008, and could really contribute with a run in the team this season. Signed for 2009.

PATRICIA WEBB - Defender - Squad Number 11

Came to the club for the 2007 season, although has previous form - and is proving a great asset for the young club - has great qualities - brave and technically very sound - has had a run at various positions and looks to be most useful at the right of the defence with some ferocious tackling and clever instinctive reading of the modern game - Trish although is a useful utility player with a lot of potential - her start in 2008 was unfortunate after picking up a knee injury in pre-season -put returned late in the season at Crumlin - could be a leader once she establishes her first team spot back - will be very hard to shift - Profile: bags of talent, useful utility player who has a biting tackle and solid approach to the modern game - technically sound - but has a tenacity to go gun ho and abandon her defensive responsibilities from time to time. Overall a good defensive and experienced player. Signed for 2009.

CHRISTINE MORRISON - Defender - Squad Number 16

Solid dependable, and very resolute central defender - has tremendous pace and can recover lost causes at the back. Is still a learner in terms of reading the game, although an asset to any side - last season she has started strong and got better with each game played - proving to be determined to improve further - not afraid to put her foot in and is totally committed to those 50-50 tackles - Christine has worked on the basics principles and was one of the most improved players in 2008. Another player at the club who could ensure promotion in the next few years for the Bangor based side - Profile: young, bright and very quick, is slowly developing into a solid defender and has proved herself very capable of mixing it up, with a good solid performance - top quality footballer and a good signing for Bangor Ladies in 2009. Signed for 2009.

LAUREN McATEER - Midfielder - Squad Number 17

Lauren is a naturally talented footballer, with good balance, pace and quick feet. The teenager has already made a big impression, following a few cameo appearances in the team. Arriving shortly after the start of the season, she has settled in quickly and is proving a key player for the Seasiders this season and hopefully beyond that. Roles in midfield show she has to discipline to keep the width of the team, the technique to take players on and the turn of speed to get behind any defence. Expect her to pick up one or two goals this season as she finds her feet and her best position in the side – given an opportunity of a regularly start, Lauren will definitely make a valuable addition to the club. Missing out on the pre-season means she might just be off the pace for a few more fixtures – though has the confidence and the attitude to fight for, and hold onto, a regular start. Over the last few weeks, as her fitness improves and awareness of her responsibilities in the have developed, she has already proved just what an exciting prospect and valuable signing she will be at Bangor Ladies. Netted twice already - both goals showing the young players ability and technical skills.Signed for 2009.

VALERIE McKIBBIN - Defender - Squad Number 18

Quiet and dependable, can play either side at the back, though favours the left side. Reads the game superbly and will be given a lot more starts now she has settled into the back four. Has improved and is enjoying her best season, since breaking into the side in May. Is a tough competitor and as she is capable of lifting her game when called upon. Put in a lot of useful performances but can be a better player than most people believe with determination. Profile - Tremendous footballer who will emerge when she commits in 2009 as a regular in the team, and will prove to be a key instrumental figure for the success of the team. Signed for 2009

LEANNE McGARRY - Defender - Squad Number 5

Arrives at Bangor Ladies with an acclaimed footballing background , having been playing at the top level in Northern Ireland for the last few seasons. Previously with one of the Province’s top ladies clubs The Predators, Leanne has come to Bangor ladies not only as a player but also in the capacity of asst. Coach/Manager. An accomplished defender, she was part of very successful Ards Raiders team in the early part of the millennium years. With league and cup medal coming from her stint in Newtownards, Leanne was part of the exodus from her former club, during the emergence of a ladies team in Bangor. After a spell at the Preds, attracted by the possibility of expanding not only her coaching ability but also boosting her CV, Leanne was coaxed back to her home town club where she will be the pace of the Premier division and an experienced head on young shoulders. Very strong in the tackle, quick, vocal and organised, Leanne is the all round central defender, with an aerial presence at both ends of the pitch. Signed for 2009.

NATASHA LEE - Striker - Squad Number 4

A talented, gifted no-nonsense striker with a direct approach to the game – Teenager Lee has a rawness and enthusiasm, which potentially, will see her develop through to the top level over the next three seasons. Selected in the starting line up front in the opener against Donegal Celtic at Clandeboye Park and didn’t disappoint - with a solid debut. Is seen as a key addition to the current strike partnership of Sharpe and Savage and will have them both looking over their shoulders as part of a trio, Natasha will press for a regular spot in the starting 11. A vicious right foot which will bag her a net full of goals once she gets to grips with her offensive responsibilities as the vanguard of the Seasiders - expect goals and lots of them. Has featured at International level and the Bangor Academy footballer should certainly be in contention for a senior call up very soon. Signed for 2009

RACHEL BATES - Defender - Squad Number 2

Another new addition to Bangor Ladies for 2009 –a top class intelligent defender. Rachel has also featured for one of Northern Ireland’s top club The Predators and been a regular starter in the premier division so brings a lot of experience to the Seasiders. One of an elite bunch of talented players who came through school together at Bangor Academy in the late nineties. Can play deep as a sweeper or either side of a back four, Rachel reads the game well and has the composure to step at the first sign of threat. Had a spell out with injury but is fresh and back at her best. Will be a regular for the club if she can keep herself fit and injury free in 2009. Signed for 2009.

CAROL CUMMINGS - Midfielder - Squad Number 15

Has only arrived at Bangor Ladies just a few weeks ago and looks to be a useful addition to the squad. Comes to the Seasiders after a break from playing ladies football. A former player from Post Office, another who was given a starting role in the centre of midfield though will be also given a shot up top once she settles at the club. Will keep improving and getting both her fitness up and her sharpness back will bring out the best side of the former Port Office footballer. Is fancied to net a few this season, after curling in a great strike at training recently. Signed for 2009

BRIDGET FINEGAN - Goalkeeper - Squad Number 66

Now Bangor No.1 Bridget is probably the club most important signing at the start of the 2009 season. Brave, quick and a natural footballer. Had spells at a number of top clubs around the country. Has enjoyed successful spells as an outfield player and is still a very useful and skillful footballer – a ligament injury has forced Bridget to be more restricted in recent years and she has adapted and become one of the league top keepers. After coming to the Seasiders mid season last year Bridget settled quickly and the club benefited immediately from the signing – in her first game she was dominate as the Seasiders took apart the league leaders Saint Matthews in probably the best shock in the Intermediate League in 2007. Bridget went on to play in the final four games of the season in which the club won three and finished with a clean sheet at Crusaders in September. A top signing and a great asset to Bangor Ladies Football Club. Signed for 2009

JULIE HASLAM - Defender - Squad Number 3

Julie is slowly emerging in her third season in the NIWFA and although she has a lot of work to do in relation to aggression, has worked hard on her fitness and first touch - has proved in 2008 a useful attribute if she can continue to progress and develop an understanding of the game. The management had intended to protect her and slowly introduce her into a back four but Julie has advanced at a good rate and has shown to have an appetite for the modern game. Her efforts have seen her slowly progress and if she can continue on this vein - we will see a fairly accomplished footballer at the end of 2009. Profile - Risen to the challenge to catch up with some of the more experienced players and her patience has been paramount in realizing that this will take time but this year in particular is closer than ever to a regular start - has confidence in herself after a shakey first year back in 2006, and an injry late in 08.Signed for 2009

JACKIE PRICE - Defender - Squad Number 19

Came to the club with some experience having played for a neighbouring side in its infancy - however this could present her with her biggest test - coming back to football with a fresh start in a new club - has shown that she still has a lot of talent, so it will give her the incentive to wipe away some of those negative thoughts she may have picked up - a versatile and ferocious defender who will snap at the heels of opposing strikers - been a solid signing since 2006 - already made a solid improvement and has cut out her flaw of diving in, showing her maturity after two seasons. Is a regular starter putting in a productive all round contribution - could also feature in midfield. JP has been named player of the game at Clandeboye Park on many occasions and with her improved concentration levels in getting better and better. Signed for 2009.
